{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,5,13]],"date-time":"2026-05-13T12:15:38Z","timestamp":1778674538396,"version":"3.51.4"},"posted":{"date-parts":[[2023,1,26]]},"reference-count":0,"publisher":"Wiley","content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":[],"abstract":"<jats:p>\n                  <jats:bold>Background \u2013<\/jats:bold>\n                  Allergen immunotherapy is a well-established\ntreatment for canine atopic dermatitis (CAD), but non-invasive, safe,\neffective, and easy-to-use home-administration routes that promote\nowner\u2019s compliance are needed. Epicutaneous immunotherapy (EPIT) has\nbeen suggested as a promising alternative treatment for human allergies.\nThis study primarily evaluated EPIT\u2019s feasibility, effectiveness, and\nsafety for CAD.\n                  <jats:bold>Methods \u2013<\/jats:bold>\n                  Sixteen client-owned dogs with\nspontaneous, nonseasonal, mite-sensitive CAD were enrolled for a\n6-month, once-weekly, 12-hour EPIT. A costume-made 3D-printed device was\ndesigned to deliver the allergen-based formulation. Primary efficacy\noutcomes included the owner\u2019s assessed pruritus (PVAS10) and treatment\nefficacy (OGATE), and veterinarian-assessed skin lesions (2D-IGA).\nSecondary efficacy outcomes were the quality-of-life (QoL) and\nserological allergen-specific IgE\u2019s concentrations. Effectiveness was\ndefined by the success of the primary efficacy outcomes, according to\nthe ICADA\u2019s COSCAD\u201918 recommendations. EPIT was deemed safe in the\nabsence of severe side-effects.\n                  <jats:bold>Results \u2013<\/jats:bold>\n                  EPIT effectively\nimproved clinical condition, with a success rate of 73.3% for pruritus,\n66.7% for skin lesions, and 93.3% for QoL. A good-to-excellent\nresponse to EPIT was rated by 93.3% of owners in OGATE. EPIT\nsignificantly improved PVAS10 (p=0.000015), 2D-IGA (p=0.006) and QoL\n(p=0.000014) scores over six months. A significant difference was\nevident within one month for PVAS10 (p=0.003) and 2D-IGA (p=0.009)\nscores. Seven dogs partially desensitised to at least one mite and two\nfully desensitised to all mites after six months.
