Since it is well known\n                        that there are nonrecursive sets (e.g. sets of minimal degree) containing no\n                        nonrecursive subset of <jats:italic>lower<\/jats:italic> degree, it is natural to\n                        suppose that these arguments may be combined, but this is false.
