A dimensa\u0303o humana da cie\u0302ncia emerge naturalmente da ana\u0301lise de apontamentos biogra\u0301ficos que enfatizem os dilemas e os sucessos e fracassos dos cientistas. Os episo\u0301dios histo\u0301ricos e as atitudes e acc\u0327o\u0303es dos cientistas mostram como funciona a cie\u0302ncia e da\u0303o aos estudantes e pu\u0301blico a possibilidade de reflectirem sobre a cie\u0302ncia e a sua humanidade, assim como de desenvolverem a capacidade de desconfiar do anacronismo, da pseudo-cie\u0302ncia, da cie\u0302ncia patolo\u0301gica e da fraude cienti\u0301fica, para melhor apreciarem e entenderem o desenvolvimento da cie\u0302ncia. Comec\u0327ando com uma breve revisa\u0303o dos sintomas e crite\u0301rios propostos na literatura para distinguir desvios anormais, neste trabalho sa\u0303o analisados alguns casos de produc\u0327a\u0303o de cie\u0302ncia patolo\u0301gica nos campos da qui\u0301mica e da fi\u0301sica, procurando, a partir destes, evidenciar caminhos pedago\u0301gicos que fomentem o espi\u0301rito cri\u0301tico dos estudantes e do pu\u0301blico. Abstract Biographical data about scientists, and in particular about chemists and physicists, can be used for engaging students and the public, humanizing the science image, and for demonstrating how it works in the practice. The human dimension of science emerges naturally from the analysis of biographical aspects that emphasize the dilemmas and the successes and failures of scientists. The historical episodes and the attitudes and actions of scientists show how science works and offer students and public the opportunity to reflect about science and its humanity, as well as to develop the capacity to distrust anachronism, pseudo-science, pathological science, and scientific fraud in order to better appreciate and understand the action and development of science.
