Ciencia Ens."],"abstract":"<jats:p>Resumo\nO Laborat\u00f3rio Qu\u00edmico da Escola Polit\u00e9cnica de Lisboa oferece uma oportunidade fascinante para os historiadores: a sua not\u00e1vel preserva\u00e7\u00e3o e a quantidade de acervo existente permitem o estudo e uma abordagem \u00e0s condi\u00e7\u00f5es da pr\u00e1tica cient\u00edfica nesta institui\u00e7\u00e3o no s\u00e9culo XIX. Neste trabalho, pretendemos relacionar a vida de J\u00falio M\u00e1ximo de Oliveira Pimentel (1809-1884), o 2.\u00ba Visconde de Vila Maior, com o in\u00edcio do ensino da Qu\u00edmica experimental na Escola Polit\u00e9cnica de Lisboa. Grande parte dos estudos realizados sobre Pimentel e outros professores de Qu\u00edmica desta institui\u00e7\u00e3o t\u00eam-se baseado em fontes textuais, como relat\u00f3rios oficiais, mem\u00f3rias e publica\u00e7\u00f5es cient\u00edficas. No entanto, o patrim\u00f3nio material \u00e9 uma fonte que deve ser explorada e d\u00e1 informa\u00e7\u00f5es complementares. Apresentamos os resultados de um estudo que procura relacionar esse patrim\u00f3nio, pertencente \u00e0 cole\u00e7\u00e3o de qu\u00edmica do Museu Nacional de Hist\u00f3ria Natural e da Ci\u00eancia, com o conhecimento j\u00e1 existente sobre a vida acad\u00e9mica e profissional desse professor de Qu\u00edmica. O nosso objetivo \u00e9 contribuir para uma compreens\u00e3o mais aprofundada dos contextos de utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o desses objetos. Utilizando fontes materiais, como objetos, reagentes, faturas, livros e atas, pretendemos revisitar e expandir o conhecimento n\u00e3o apenas sobre o Visconde de Vila Maior, mas tamb\u00e9m sobre a cole\u00e7\u00e3o de Qu\u00edmica existente na institui\u00e7\u00e3o, com o principal objetivo de compreender as contribui\u00e7\u00f5es desse professor para a Qu\u00edmica e o seu ensino em Portugal.\n\u00a0\nPalavras-chave: Livros de Qu\u00edmica, Hist\u00f3ria do Ensino da Qu\u00edmica; Cultura Material, Laboratorio Chimico \n\u00a0\nAbstract\nThe Chemical Laboratory of the Polytechnic School of Lisbon offers a fascinating opportunity for historians: its remarkable preservation and the amount of existing collection allows the study and an approach to the conditions of scientific practice in this institution during the 19th century. In this paper, we aim to establish a connection between the life of Julio de Oliveira Pimentel (1809-1884), the 2nd Viscount of Vila Maior, and the beginnings of experimental chemistry education at the Polytechnic School of Lisbon. Much of the research conducted on Pimentel and other chemistry professors at this institution has relied on textual sources such as official reports, memoirs, and scientific publications. However, the material heritage is also worth to explore, as it provides complementary information. In this work we present the results of a study that seeks to establish a relationship between this heritage, belonging to the chemistry collection of the National Museum of Natural History and Science, and the existing knowledge about the academic and professional life of this chemistry professor. Our goal is to contribute to a deeper understanding of the contexts in which these objects were used.
