Math."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2009]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title><jats:p> This is a review of the main results in computational mathematics that\nwere obtained by the eminent Russian mathematician Alexander Andreevich Samarskii\n(February 19, 1919 \u2013 February 11, 2008). His outstanding research output addresses\nall the main questions that arise in the construction and justification of algorithms for\nthe numerical solution of problems from mathematical physics.\nThe remarkable works of A.A. Samarskii include statements of the main principles re-\nquired in the construction of difference schemes, rigorous mathematical proofs of the\nstability and convergence of these schemes, and also investigations of their algorith-\nmic implementation. A.A. Samarskii and his collaborators constructed and applied in\npractical calculations a large number of algorithms for solving various problems from\nmathematical physics, including thermal physics, gas dynamics, magnetic gas dynam-\nics, plasma physics, ecology and other important models from the natural sciences.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.2478\/cmam-2009-0002","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2013,2,15]],"date-time":"2013-02-15T09:05:50Z","timestamp":1360919150000},"page":"5-36","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Works of A.A.
