The goal of the paper was to indicate some of the main consequences of the use of Geography Markup Language in the important geospatial data harmonisation processes, both search and access, which are in current use. In order to show a practical example of the use of Geography Markup Language, the system for Earth observation data processing and distribution at the Institute for Applied Remote Sensing at EURAC, Bolzano was studied.
