The investigation combines static and dynamic finite element analyses to ensure both structural reliability of the fixture and representative loading of the specimens. A static analysis was performed to verify that the gripping system remains within the elastic range under operational forces, with particular attention to stress levels and safety against yielding. A complementary dynamic analysis focused on the specimen response, identifying the regions of maximum stress concentration under high strain-rate loading. Two specimen geometries were considered: single lap joints and bulk dogbone configurations, enabling a direct evaluation of their suitability for dynamic tensile testing. The results demonstrate the robustness of the gripping design and provide engineering insight into specimen\u2013fixture interaction, supporting its use in reliable SHPB tensile experiments.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.24840\/2795-5168_003-001_3377","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,12,29]],"date-time":"2025-12-29T15:16:41Z","timestamp":1767021401000},"page":"29-36","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Numerical Study of a Novel Griping System for Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar Experiments"],"prefix":"10.24840","volume":"3","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0009-0007-0357-6290","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Francisco","family":"Fonseca","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-1933-0865","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Ricardo","family":"Carbas","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-2750-8184","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Eduardo","family":"Marques","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-3272-4591","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Lucas","family":"Da Silva","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"10468","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2025,12,29]]},"container-title":["Engineering Manufacturing Letters"],"original-title":[],"link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/journalsojs3.fe.up.pt\/index.php\/eml\/article\/download\/2795-5168_003-001_3377\/1003","content-type":"application\/pdf","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/journalsojs3.fe.up.pt\/index.php\/eml\/article\/download\/2795-5168_003-001_3377\/1003","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,12,29]],"date-time":"2025-12-29T15:16:42Z","timestamp":1767021402000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/journalsojs3.fe.up.pt\/index.php\/eml\/article\/view\/2795-5168_003-001_3377"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2025,12,29]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"1","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2025,12,29]]}},"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.24840\/2795-5168_003-001_3377","relation":{},"ISSN":["2795-5168"],"issn-type":[{"value":"2795-5168","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2025,12,29]]}}}
