The ontology is linked to the sources using mappings, which assign views over the data to ontology predicates. Motivated by the need for OBDA systems supporting database-style aggregate queries, we propose a bag semantics for OBDA, where duplicate tuples in the views defined by the mappings are retained, as is the case in standard databases. We show that bag semantics makes conjunctive query answering in OBDA coNP-hard in data complexity. To regain tractability, we consider a rather general class of queries and show its rewritability to a generalisation of the relational calculus to bags.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.24963\/ijcai.2017\/170","type":"proceedings-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2017,7,28]],"date-time":"2017-07-28T05:14:07Z","timestamp":1501218847000},"page":"1224-1230","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":6,"title":["The Bag Semantics of Ontology-Based Data Access"],"prefix":"10.24963","author":[{"given":"Charalampos","family":"Nikolaou","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Science, University of Oxford, UK"}]},{"given":"Egor V.","family":"Kostylev","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Oxford"}]},{"given":"George","family":"Konstantinidis","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Science, University of Oxford, UK"}]},{"given":"Mark","family":"Kaminski","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Science, University of Oxford, UK"}]},{"given":"Bernardo","family":"Cuenca Grau","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Science, University of Oxford, UK"}]},{"given":"Ian","family":"Horrocks","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Science, University of Oxford, UK"}]}],"member":"10584","event":{"number":"26","sponsor":["International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence Organization (IJCAI)","University of Technology Sydney (UTS)","Australian Computer Society (ACS)"],"acronym":"IJCAI-2017","name":"Twenty-Sixth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","start":{"date-parts":[[2017,8,19]]},"theme":"Artificial Intelligence","location":"Melbourne, Australia","end":{"date-parts":[[2017,8,26]]}},"container-title":["Proceedings of the Twenty-Sixth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2017,7,28]],"date-time":"2017-07-28T07:52:36Z","timestamp":1501228356000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.ijcai.org\/proceedings\/2017\/170"}},"subtitle":[],"proceedings-subject":"Artificial Intelligence Research Articles","short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2017,8]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.24963\/ijcai.2017\/170","relation":{},"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2017,8]]}}}
