Existing measures for kernel selection either provide less theoretical guarantee or have high computational complexity. In this paper, we propose a novel kernel selection criterion based on a newly defined spectral measure of a kernel matrix, with sound theoretical foundation and high computational efficiency. We first show that the spectral measure can be used to derive generalization bounds for some kernel-based algorithms. By minimizing the derived generalization bounds, we propose the kernel selection criterion with spectral measure. Moreover, we demonstrate that the popular minimum graph cut and maximum mean discrepancy are two special cases of the proposed criterion. Experimental results on lots of data sets show that our proposed criterion can not only give the comparable results as the state-of-the-art criterion, but also significantly improve the efficiency.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.24963\/ijcai.2017\/295","type":"proceedings-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2017,7,28]],"date-time":"2017-07-28T05:14:07Z","timestamp":1501218847000},"page":"2124-2130","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["Efficient Kernel Selection via Spectral Analysis"],"prefix":"10.24963","author":[{"given":"Jian","family":"Li","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Institute of Information Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences"},{"name":"School of Cyber Security, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Yong","family":"Liu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Institute of Information Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences"},{"name":"Tianjin University"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Hailun","family":"Lin","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Institute of Information Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Yinliang","family":"Yue","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Institute of Information Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Weiping","family":"Wang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Institute of Information Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"10584","event":{"number":"26","sponsor":["International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence Organization (IJCAI)","University of Technology Sydney (UTS)","Australian Computer Society (ACS)"],"acronym":"IJCAI-2017","name":"Twenty-Sixth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","start":{"date-parts":[[2017,8,19]]},"theme":"Artificial Intelligence","location":"Melbourne, Australia","end":{"date-parts":[[2017,8,26]]}},"container-title":["Proceedings of the Twenty-Sixth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2017,7,28]],"date-time":"2017-07-28T07:53:14Z","timestamp":1501228394000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.ijcai.org\/proceedings\/2017\/295"}},"subtitle":[],"proceedings-subject":"Artificial Intelligence Research Articles","short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2017,8]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.24963\/ijcai.2017\/295","relation":{},"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2017,8]]}}}
