We focus on piecewise constant utility functions and consider two scenarios: the general setting without any restriction on the allocations and the restricted setting where each agent has to receive a connected piece. We show that no deterministic truthful envy-free mechanism exists in the connected piece scenario, and the same impossibility result for the general setting with some additional mild assumptions on the allocations. Finally, we study a large market model where the economy is replicated and demonstrate that truth-telling converges to a Nash equilibrium.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.24963\/ijcai.2017\/507","type":"proceedings-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2017,7,28]],"date-time":"2017-07-28T09:14:07Z","timestamp":1501233247000},"page":"3625-3631","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":13,"title":["Cake Cutting: Envy and Truth"],"prefix":"10.24963","author":[{"given":"Xiaohui","family":"Bei","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Nanyang Technological University"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Ning","family":"Chen","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Nanyang Technological University"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Guangda","family":"Huzhang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Nanyang Technological University"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Biaoshuai","family":"Tao","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Michigan"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Jiajun","family":"Wu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Nanyang Technological University"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"10584","event":{"name":"Twenty-Sixth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","theme":"Artificial Intelligence","location":"Melbourne, Australia","acronym":"IJCAI-2017","number":"26","sponsor":["International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence Organization (IJCAI)","University of Technology Sydney (UTS)","Australian Computer Society (ACS)"],"start":{"date-parts":[[2017,8,19]]},"end":{"date-parts":[[2017,8,26]]}},"container-title":["Proceedings of the Twenty-Sixth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2017,7,28]],"date-time":"2017-07-28T11:54:15Z","timestamp":1501242855000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.ijcai.org\/proceedings\/2017\/507"}},"subtitle":[],"proceedings-subject":"Artificial Intelligence Research Articles","short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2017,8]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.24963\/ijcai.2017\/507","relation":{},"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2017,8]]}}}
