We formalize and streamline this procedure with argument schemes. As a result, any conclusion drawn by means of this approach comes along with a justification. It turns out that the statements which can be inferred through this process form a proper preference relation. More precisely, it corresponds to a necessary preference relation under the assumption of additive utilities. We show the inference task can be performed in polynomial time in this setting, but that finding a minimal length explanation is NP-complete.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.24963\/ijcai.2019\/213","type":"proceedings-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2019,7,28]],"date-time":"2019-07-28T07:46:05Z","timestamp":1564299965000},"page":"1537-1543","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":4,"title":["Comparing Options with Argument Schemes Powered by Cancellation"],"prefix":"10.24963","author":[{"given":"Khaled","family":"Belahcene","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Nutriomics, Sorbonne Universite, INSERM, France"}]},{"given":"Christophe","family":"Labreuche","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Thales Research and Technology, Palaiseau, France"}]},{"given":"Nicolas","family":"Maudet","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Sorbonne Universite, CNRS, LIP6, F-75005 Paris, France"}]},{"given":"Vincent","family":"Mousseau","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"MICS, CentraleSupelec, Universite Paris-Saclay, Gif-sur-Yvette, France"}]},{"given":"Wassila","family":"Ouerdane","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"MICS, CentraleSupelec, Universite Paris-Saclay, Gif-sur-Yvette, France"}]}],"member":"10584","event":{"name":"Twenty-Eighth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence {IJCAI-19}","theme":"Artificial Intelligence","location":"Macao, China","acronym":"IJCAI-2019","number":"28","sponsor":["International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence Organization (IJCAI)"],"start":{"date-parts":[[2019,8,10]]},"end":{"date-parts":[[2019,8,16]]}},"container-title":["Proceedings of the Twenty-Eighth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2019,7,28]],"date-time":"2019-07-28T07:47:37Z","timestamp":1564300057000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.ijcai.org\/proceedings\/2019\/213"}},"subtitle":[],"proceedings-subject":"Artificial Intelligence Research Articles","short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2019,8]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.24963\/ijcai.2019\/213","relation":{},"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2019,8]]}}}
