A main application is electric vehicle charging where agents arrive and leave over time. Unlike previous work, we consider mechanisms without money, and a range of objectives including fairness and efficiency. In doing so, we extend the concept of envy-freeness to online settings. Furthermore, we explore the trade-offs between different objectives and analyse their theoretical properties both in online and offline settings. We then introduce novel online scheduling algorithms and compare them in terms of both their theoretical properties and empirical performance.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.24963\/ijcai.2019\/773","type":"proceedings-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2019,7,28]],"date-time":"2019-07-28T07:46:05Z","timestamp":1564299965000},"page":"5569-5575","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["Fair Online Allocation of Perishable Goods and its Application to Electric Vehicle Charging"],"prefix":"10.24963","author":[{"given":"Enrico H.","family":"Gerding","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Southampton"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Alvaro","family":"Perez-Diaz","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Southampton"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Haris","family":"Aziz","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"UNSW Sydney"},{"name":"Data61, CSIRO"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Serge","family":"Gaspers","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"UNSW Sydney"},{"name":"Data61, CSIRO"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Antonia","family":"Marcu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Southampton"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Nicholas","family":"Mattei","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Tulane University"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Toby","family":"Walsh","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"UNSW Sydney"},{"name":"Data61, CSIRO"},{"name":"TU Berlin"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"10584","event":{"name":"Twenty-Eighth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence {IJCAI-19}","theme":"Artificial Intelligence","location":"Macao, China","acronym":"IJCAI-2019","number":"28","sponsor":["International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence Organization (IJCAI)"],"start":{"date-parts":[[2019,8,10]]},"end":{"date-parts":[[2019,8,16]]}},"container-title":["Proceedings of the Twenty-Eighth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2019,7,28]],"date-time":"2019-07-28T07:51:43Z","timestamp":1564300303000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.ijcai.org\/proceedings\/2019\/773"}},"subtitle":[],"proceedings-subject":"Artificial Intelligence Research Articles","short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2019,8]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.24963\/ijcai.2019\/773","relation":{},"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2019,8]]}}}
