An LCN specifies a set of probability distributions over all interpretations of a set of logical formulas for which marginal and conditional probability bounds on their truth values are known. Inference in LCNs involves the exact solution of a non-convex non-linear program defined over an exponentially large number of non-negative real valued variables and, therefore, is limited to relatively small problems. In this paper, we present ARIEL -- a novel iterative message-passing scheme for approximate inference in LCNs. Inspired by classical belief propagation for graphical models, our method propagates messages that involve solving considerably smaller local non-linear programs. Experiments on several classes of LCNs demonstrate clearly that ARIEL yields high quality solutions compared with exact inference and scales to much larger problems than previously considered.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.24963\/ijcai.2023\/632","type":"proceedings-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2023,8,11]],"date-time":"2023-08-11T04:31:30Z","timestamp":1691728290000},"page":"5694-5701","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Approximate Inference in Logical Credal Networks"],"prefix":"10.24963","author":[{"given":"Radu","family":"Marinescu","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"IBM Research"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Haifeng","family":"Qian","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"AWS AI Labs"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Alexander","family":"Gray","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"IBM Research"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Debarun","family":"Bhattacharjya","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"IBM Research"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Francisco","family":"Barahona","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"IBM Research"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Tian","family":"Gao","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"IBM Research"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Ryan","family":"Riegel","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"IBM Research"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"10584","event":{"number":"32","sponsor":["International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence Organization (IJCAI)"],"acronym":"IJCAI-2023","name":"Thirty-Second International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence {IJCAI-23}","start":{"date-parts":[[2023,8,19]]},"theme":"Artificial Intelligence","location":"Macau, SAR China","end":{"date-parts":[[2023,8,25]]}},"container-title":["Proceedings of the Thirty-Second International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2023,8,11]],"date-time":"2023-08-11T04:52:41Z","timestamp":1691729561000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.ijcai.org\/proceedings\/2023\/632"}},"subtitle":[],"proceedings-subject":"Artificial Intelligence Research Articles","short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2023,8]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.24963\/ijcai.2023\/632","relation":{},"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2023,8]]}}}
