It discusses\nthe necessity of integrating knowledge from various disciplines to address the unprecedented\nchallenges posed by climate change.\nDesign\/methodology\/approach: The paper employs a theoretical approach, drawing on\nhistorical and contemporary examples to illustrate the evolution of knowledge and the need for\ninterdisciplinary integration. It reviews the development of scientific institutions and theories,\nsuch as the Earth System Science paradigm, and examines the role of humanities in addressing\nclimate change.\nFindings: The paper finds that the fragmentation of scientific knowledge into specialized\ndisciplines has hindered the ability to address complex socio-natural challenges like climate\nchange. It highlights the importance of integrating knowledge from the humanities and social\nsciences with natural sciences to create a comprehensive understanding of planetary systems.\nThe paper also identifies the underfunding of social sciences and humanities in climate research\nas a significant barrier to effective climate action.\nResearch limitations\/implications: The paper suggests that future research should focus on\ndeveloping methodologies for integrating interdisciplinary knowledge and overcoming\ninstitutional barriers to such integration. It also highlights the need for more funding and support\nfor interdisciplinary research, particularly in the humanities and social sciences.\nPractical implications: The research implies that policymakers and academic institutions\nshould prioritize interdisciplinary approaches to climate research and allocate more resources\nto the humanities and social sciences. This could lead to more effective climate policies and\na better understanding of the human dimensions of climate change.\nSocial implications: The paper argues that integrating knowledge from the humanities and\nsocial sciences can enhance public understanding of climate change and motivate societal\naction. It suggests that addressing cultural, political, and behavioral aspects of climate change\nis crucial for achieving sustainability.\nOriginality\/value: The paper provides a unique perspective on the importance of\ninterdisciplinarity in climate research, emphasizing the role of the humanities and social\nsciences. It addresses scholars, policymakers, and academic institutions interested in\ndeveloping comprehensive strategies for climate action.\nKeywords: Interdisciplinarity, Climate change, Anthropocene, Humanities, Earth System\nScience.\nCategory of the paper: Research paper, Theoretical paper.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.29119\/1641-3466.2024.214.11","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,4,14]],"date-time":"2025-04-14T14:17:41Z","timestamp":1744640261000},"page":"155-167","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["The problem of interdisciplinarity in the age of climate destabilization.
