Despite significant progress in CD management, unmet medical needs persist, necessitating the development of new and targeted approaches. Recent studies have shed light on the complex pathogenesis of CD, involving various factors, including environmental influences, immune system interactions, genetic susceptibility, and alterations in the gut microbiome. Among these factors, pH, which plays a crucial role in gut health, has emerged as a pivotal indicator influencing the structure and functioning of microbial communities. Alterations in pH profiles in CD patients, particularly in the colonic region, have been observed, potentially impacting gut microbiota composition and function. Additionally, pH is vital for maintaining the integrity of the intestinal mucosa and optimizing drug delivery. Based on these findings, targeted pH modulation represents a promising complementary approach to existing CD treatments. Precise adjustment of pH levels may promote an environment that supports beneficial bacteria, strengthens the gut barrier, and enhances medication efficacy. However, further research is needed to fully understand the intricate interactions between gut microbiota, pH, and the host’s immune system, ensuring the safety and potential implications of pH modulation. The pursuit of novel and effective treatments, including pH modulation, holds promise to improve the quality of life for individuals living with CD, requiring continued research and clinical trials to explore its feasibility and benefits in CD management.
</jats:p>
[[2025,3,28
["pH dynamics in Crohn’s disease: implications for the gut microbiota and therapeutic strategies
J.
