{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,4,14]],"date-time":"2026-04-14T09:14:42Z","timestamp":1776158082609,"version":"3.50.1"},"posted":{"date-parts":[[2021,11,2]]},"group-title":"SocArXiv","reference-count":0,"publisher":"Center for Open Science","content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":[],"abstract":"<p>We utilize the distinction between collective narcissism (insistence on external recognition of ingroup\u2019s superiority) and ingroup satisfaction (feeling proud of belonging to a valuable group) to examine whether the link between religiosity and positivity toward the nation in Poland reflect a need to feel embedded in salient social groups or an attraction to groups bound by beliefs of threatened superiority. In two nationally representative surveys (one longitudinal), we found that although both national collective narcissism and national ingroup satisfaction are linked to religiosity, the association with national collective narcissism is significantly stronger across different religious orientations and different assessments of individual religiosity. Longitudinal analyses indicate that while strongly related, national collective narcissism and religiosity do not affect each other.
