The Croatian example is perhaps one of the most specific ones. Divided between the imperial interests of France, Britain, Italy, Hungary, and the Austrian Empire, nineteenth-century mapping of Croatia went through a long journey, from imperial mapping in the first half of the nineteenth century to the development of national cartography in the second half of the nineteenth century.
