The history \u201cbug\u201d bit her in the 1970s as her interest in women's history emerged from involvement in social movements, particularly the women's movement. Her interest was also strengthened by significant female mentors at the University of Toronto. The exciting potential of social history and her social activism helped shape her research interests and theoretical frameworks. Women's work and women's involvement in political movements have been the central themes in her historical research and publications.
