Lack of time and resources is a frequently reported problem encountered when developing VPs for teaching and learning. Consequently there is a need for cross-institutional repositories of VPs. The aims of the study were two-fold: to enable interoperability between virtual patient systems and to investigate if (and how) an application profile is implemented in four different types of VP systems. This European collaborative implementation of a blend of several specifications (Medbiquitous VP XML, Medbiquitous Healthcare LOM, and SCORM) is innovative and the study has shown a variation in how the application profile could be implemented.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-60750-044-5-826","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T15:10:01Z","timestamp":1740150601000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Enabling Interoperability, Accessibility and Reusability of Virtual Patients across Europe – Design and Implementation"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Zary Nabil","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"family":"Hege Inga","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"family":"Heid Jörn","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"family":"Woodham Luke","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"family":"Donkers Jeroen","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"family":"Kononowicz Andrzej A","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Studies in Health Technology and Informatics","Medical Informatics in a United and Healthy Europe"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T15:41:06Z","timestamp":1740152466000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISSNISBN&issn=0926-9630&volume=150&spage=826"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2009]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-60750-044-5-826","relation":{},"ISSN":["0926-9630"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0926-9630","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2009]]}}}
