Among other things, these systems communicate individually with RFID tags that pass through their field of presence as well as share data thus collected with other systems. There is a need to link these elements to develop e-infrastructures that enable an organization to learn and evolve, be agile and flexible, and adapt to the changing requirements of the highly inter-connected environment. While providing flexibility and evolvability we argue that the characteristics of information generated through Web Services and RFID tags enable us to provide services that are also stable and available. The stabilisation and convergence of standards for the execution of business processes, Web Services, RFID data enable us to design cyber-infrastructures that resemble the supply chain services they support. We develop a Web Services-based prototype for such applications.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-60750-056-8-109","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,19]],"date-time":"2025-02-19T18:02:07Z","timestamp":1739988127000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["On Building a Web Services-based Prototype for RFID Applications"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Sundaram David","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Zhou Wei","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Piramuthu Selwyn","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Pienaar Schalk","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Ambient Intelligence and Smart Environments","Workshops Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Intelligent Environments"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,19]],"date-time":"2025-02-19T18:04:57Z","timestamp":1739988297000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISSNISBN&issn=1875-4163&volume=4&spage=109"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2009]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-60750-056-8-109","relation":{},"ISSN":["1875-4163"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1875-4163","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2009]]}}}
