We adapt these systems to RoboRescue, where robots explore land looking for victims. When they find someone they “shout” so that robot mates can hear it. The louder the shout, the most important or urgent the finding. Louder shouts can also refer to closeness. Several experiments show that this system works very scalably, and how heterogeneous teams of robots outperform homogeneous ones over a range of task complexity. Finally, our results impact the design of RoboRescue teams: a properly designed combination of robots is cheaper and more scalable when confronted with uncertain maps of victims.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-60750-061-2-91","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,20]],"date-time":"2025-02-20T12:06:08Z","timestamp":1740053168000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Shout and Act"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"de la Rosa Josep Lluis","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Trias Albert","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Martorano Antoni","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Colomeda Eloi","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Huerva David","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"del Acebo Esteve","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Applications","Artificial Intelligence Research and Development"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,20]],"date-time":"2025-02-20T13:04:48Z","timestamp":1740056688000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISSNISBN&issn=0922-6389&volume=202&spage=91"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2009]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-60750-061-2-91","relation":{},"ISSN":["0922-6389"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0922-6389","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2009]]}}}
