Image resolution is progressively diminished from an initial 120dpi resolution up to 24dpi. The robustness of the examined system is analyzed with 2 databases and two identifiers. The first database acquires the images of the hand underneath whereas the second database acquires the images over the hand. The first classifier identifies with a multiclass support vector machine whereas the second classifier identifies with a neural network with error correction output codes. The four experiments show that an image resolution of 72dpi offers a good trade-off between performance and image resolution for the 15 geometric features used.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-60750-072-8-314","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T10:26:53Z","timestamp":1740133613000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["On the Relevance of Image Acquisition Resolution for Hand Geometry Identification Based on MLP"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Ferrera Miguel A.","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Fàbregas Joan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Faundez-Zanuy Marcos","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Alonso Jesús B.","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Travieso Carlos","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Sacristan Amparo","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Applications","Neural Nets WIRN09"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T10:44:26Z","timestamp":1740134666000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISSNISBN&issn=0922-6389&volume=204&spage=314"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2009]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-60750-072-8-314","relation":{},"ISSN":["0922-6389"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0922-6389","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2009]]}}}
