It is a challenge to model the laser-tissue interaction for real time laser Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) simulation which requires the laser-tissue interaction model to be computationally efficient and accurate. Under the consideration and enforcement of the thermodynamic first law and treating the laser-tissue interaction as a gray-box, utilizing the sensitivity analysis of some key parameters that will affect the laser intensity on the tissue surface with respect to the tissue vaporization rate, a phenomenological model of laser-tissue interaction is developed. The developed laser-tissue interaction model has been implemented for a laser BPH simulator and achieves real time performance (more than 30 frames per second). The model agrees well with the available experimental data.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-60750-706-2-749","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T08:25:19Z","timestamp":1740126319000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Phenomenological Model of Laser-Tissue Interaction with Application to Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) Simulation"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Zhou Xiangmin","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Zhang Nan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Shen Yunhe","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Burke Dan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Konchada Vamsi","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Sweet Robert","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Studies in Health Technology and Informatics","Medicine Meets Virtual Reality 18"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T09:04:13Z","timestamp":1740128653000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISSNISBN&issn=0926-9630&volume=163&spage=749"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2011]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-60750-706-2-749","relation":{},"ISSN":["0926-9630"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0926-9630","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2011]]}}}
