AIBL assembled 1112 participants who volunteered crucial information for a comprehensive study on neurodegenerative diseases. This paper discusses the shortcomings of the clinical trial management system chosen to record the results of the study. A set of guidelines was devised and a critique of five systems ensued. OpenClinica was selected as the most appropriate option. The main contribution of this paper is: (i) proposing a set of guidelines to determine the appropriateness of Clinical Trial Management Systems (CTMS) solution; (ii) providing a brief critique of existing commercial and open-sourced CTMS; and (iii) alluding to some data migration issues and providing cues on how to address them. We conclude that open-source CTMS are viable alternatives to the more expensive commercial systems to conduct, record and manage clinical studies.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-60750-791-8-89","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T18:09:19Z","timestamp":1740161359000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["On Selecting a Clinical Trial Management System for Large Scale, Multi-Centre, Multi-Modal Clinical Research Study"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Leroux Hugo","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"McBride Simon","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Gibson Simon","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Studies in Health Technology and Informatics","Health Informatics: The Transformative Power of Innovation"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T18:36:52Z","timestamp":1740163012000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISSNISBN&issn=0926-9630&volume=168&spage=89"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2011]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-60750-791-8-89","relation":{},"ISSN":["0926-9630"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0926-9630","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2011]]}}}
