The system augments existing mobile device technology, utilizing ultrasonic transducers and software processing to provide a local motion tracking mechanism. This has been achieved through a multi-sensory approach; combining an ultrasonic positioning setup with three dimensional accelerometer sensors. The design offers a comprehensive, portable gesture control interface capable of expanding the options for user interaction in a range of environments. To demonstrate this technology, a virtual xylophone application has been developed as a case study.
