We have established this framework through the use of two study devices: a vision of the clinical office of the future, and a survey of possible computer applications, both designed to help clinicians and practice directors communicate their information needs to systems designers. Clinicians prioritize applications based on strategic and practice goals: support for clinical users' workflow, improved quality of care, reduced cost of care, and the ability to measure performance and status. By reorganizing the needed functionality from a clinical viewpoint into a technical viewpoint, we are able to identify core information components for systems design.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-60750-896-0-1273","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T15:26:30Z","timestamp":1740151590000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Components of the Optimal Ambulatory Care Computing Environment"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Teich Jonathan M.","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Sittig Dean F.","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Kuperman Gilad J.","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Chueh Henry C.","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Zielstorff Rita D.","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Glaser John P.","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Studies in Health Technology and Informatics","MEDINFO '98"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T16:27:04Z","timestamp":1740155224000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISSNISBN&issn=0926-9630&volume=52&spage=1273"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[1998]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-60750-896-0-1273","relation":{},"ISSN":["0926-9630"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0926-9630","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[1998]]}}}
