This has unwarranted effects on the description adequacy of medical knowledge bases automatically generated from texts. The resulting representation bias can be characterized in terms of artificially fragmented, incomplete and invalid knowledge structures. We discuss three types of textual phenomena (pronominal and nominal anaphora, as well as textual ellipsis) and outline basic methodologies how to deal with them.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-60750-896-0-633","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T17:29:25Z","timestamp":1740158965000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Why Discourse Structures in Medical Reports Matter for the Validity of Automatically Generated Text Knowledge Bases"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Hahn Udo","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"family":"Romacker Martin","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"family":"Schulz Stefan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Studies in Health Technology and Informatics","MEDINFO '98"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T18:28:16Z","timestamp":1740162496000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISSNISBN&issn=0926-9630&volume=52&spage=633"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[1998]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-60750-896-0-633","relation":{},"ISSN":["0926-9630"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0926-9630","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[1998]]}}}
