The UK government wanted to disseminate information about telemedicine practice and to build an online community. The British Library and the University of Portsmouth were commissioned to create the Telemedicine Information Service &amp;ndash; the main part of which is a website supported by an email distribution list. Since its launch, approximately 40, 000 visits have been made to the website, and the mailing list has over 300 subscribers. By analysing the readership of both, it is possible to conclude that most readers are UK based.
