The two vocabularies were compared in their original form, then under incrementally normalized forms, using character-based normalizations then linguistic normalizations. Only 16.7% of the user vocabulary, in its original form, is in the MeSH. Progressive normalizations increase this proportion to 65.5%. Besides, if the frequencies of occurrence of words are taken into account, 89.3 % of user word occurrences can be matched to MeSH words. This shows the interest of taking into account further matching methods between queries and index terms than those presented here.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-60750-939-4-445","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T15:10:01Z","timestamp":1740150601000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Matching controlled vocabulary words"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Grabar Natalia","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Zweigenbaum Pierre","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Soualmia Lina","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Darmoni Stéfan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Studies in Health Technology and Informatics","The New Navigators: from Professionals to Patients"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T15:35:31Z","timestamp":1740152131000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISSNISBN&issn=0926-9630&volume=95&spage=445"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2003]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-60750-939-4-445","relation":{},"ISSN":["0926-9630"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0926-9630","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2003]]}}}
