In this paper, we introduce the Open Trace Format Version 2 (OTF2). It is a major re-design based on the experiences of its predecessor formats, the Open Trace Format (Version 1) and the EPILOG trace format. It comes with a new file encoding, a close integration in the trace recording system Score-P, and a number of improvements for performance and scalability. Besides the actual format, it consists of a read\/write support library with a powerful API plus supportive tools, which are distributed as Open Source software. Furthermore, OTF2 will serve as a joint data source for the analysis tools Scalasca and Vampir in the near future.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-61499-041-3-481","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,19]],"date-time":"2025-02-19T10:30:51Z","timestamp":1739961051000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":13,"title":["Open Trace Format 2: The Next Generation of Scalable Trace Formats and Support Libraries"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Eschweiler Dominic","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Wagner Michael","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Geimer Markus","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Knüpfer Andreas","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Nagel Wolfgang E.","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Wolf Felix","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Advances in Parallel Computing","Applications, Tools and Techniques on the Road to Exascale Computing"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,19]],"date-time":"2025-02-19T10:52:39Z","timestamp":1739962359000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISSNISBN&issn=0927-5452&volume=22&spage=481"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2012]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-61499-041-3-481","relation":{"is-cited-by":[{"id-type":"doi","id":"10.1007\/978-3-030-75933-9_3","asserted-by":"object"},{"id-type":"doi","id":"10.1007\/978-3-030-66057-4_9","asserted-by":"object"},{"id-type":"doi","id":"10.1007\/s10270-017-0598-5","asserted-by":"object"},{"id-type":"doi","id":"10.1007\/978-3-030-28596-8_2","asserted-by":"object"}]},"ISSN":["0927-5452"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0927-5452","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2012]]}}}
