Creativity support groupware is invented to stimulate team creativity by allowing teams to communicate and to perform group creative techniques over geographic distances and different time availabilities. Since the intensive discussion among members are needed to derive creative ideas, communication methods in creativity support groupwares have a great impact to team creativity. Based on 90 KJ charts constructed by 30 innovation teams supported by a KJ method creativity support groupware, this study examine the effects of three communication methods which are the task interactions only, the text chat, and the face-to-face methods on team creativity. It is found that the task interactions only method yields higher degree of team creativity than the face-to-face method by both quantitative and qualitative evaluations on divergent thinking, but not on convergent thinking.
