Software for AAL solutions can be implemented using a Multi-Agent System. This can be both context and situational aware so that interventions offered may be specifically tailored to the individual and their environment. In particular, sensory deficits in older users require significant attention to the issue of human computer interaction. An overview of current research in relation to situational awareness and assistive technologies is provided. A generalized architecture is proposed and a selection of implementation scenarios are documented.
