It is either a descriptive or prescriptive characterization of how software is developed. Existing models demonstrate powerful capabilities, but they have many ambiguous characteristics. Many surveys carried out by researchers show that, although different organizations use some process models for software development, a number of industries do not still use any model or formal development method at all. This means that, the existing models lack suitability. Hence, there is need to improve the suitability of existing models by developing a generic one that can be applicable to varieties of software development projects.
