ADFs generalise the abstract argumentation frameworks introduced by Dung by replacing Dung's single acceptance condition (that all attackers be defeated) with acceptance conditions local to each particular node. Such local acceptance conditions allow structured argumentation to be straightforwardly incorporated. Related to ADFs are prioritised ADFs, which allow for reasons pro and con a node. In this paper we show how these structures provide an excellent framework for representing a leading approach to reasoning with legal cases.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-61499-468-8-61","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T10:27:24Z","timestamp":1740133644000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":3,"title":["Abstract Dialectical Frameworks for Legal Reasoning"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Al-Abdulkarim Latifa","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Atkinson Katie","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Bench-Capon Trevor","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Applications","Legal Knowledge and Information Systems"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T11:40:32Z","timestamp":1740138032000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISSNISBN&issn=0922-6389&volume=271&spage=61"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2014]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-61499-468-8-61","relation":{},"ISSN":["0922-6389"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0922-6389","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2014]]}}}
