Both terms derived from different perspectives and from different initial objectives. With a specific focus on the aerospace sector, this communication is a starting point and reviews the different topics involved in the creation of an aircraft digital counterpart, i.e. product identification, product lifecycle, product information, product configuration, product models, and software applications involved. Then, a specific section presents both approaches, ‘product avatar’ and ‘product digital twin’, together with the currently published related works. The paper ends with a discussion of the implications of creating an aircraft avatar with an industrialization-oriented perspective.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-61499-544-9-657","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,19]],"date-time":"2025-02-19T12:19:26Z","timestamp":1739967566000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":3,"title":["Product Avatar as Digital Counterpart of a Physical Individual Product: Literature Review and Implications in an Aircraft"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Ríos José","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"family":"Hernández Juan Carlos","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"family":"Oliva Manuel","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"family":"Mas Fernando","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Advances in Transdisciplinary Engineering","Transdisciplinary Lifecycle Analysis of Systems"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,19]],"date-time":"2025-02-19T12:43:39Z","timestamp":1739969019000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISBN&isbn=978-1-61499-543-2&spage=657&doi=10.3233\/978-1-61499-544-9-657"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2015]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-61499-544-9-657","relation":{"is-cited-by":[{"id-type":"doi","id":"10.1017\/dap.2021.17","asserted-by":"object"},{"id-type":"doi","id":"10.1007\/s12599-019-00624-0","asserted-by":"object"},{"id-type":"doi","id":"10.1080\/0951192X.2019.1599436","asserted-by":"object"}]},"ISSN":["2352-751X"],"issn-type":[{"value":"2352-751X","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2015]]}}}
