The two prototypes include one built on WeChat's WeLearn platform and one developed with Adobe Captivate and delivered via a custom mobile responsive website. The prototypes were tested with Chinese hospitality students and instructors, who were asked to complete a series of surveys and interviews designed to determine the technological feasibility, user acceptance, and appropriate instructional design of the online modules. The results of the surveys and interviews indicate a preference for WeChat as an existing and widely accepted method of communication in China. Additionally, based on the array of device preference, device availability, and learning style preference, the survey and interview data indicate CHEI should develop curriculum that is cross compatible with laptop computers, tablets, and mobile phones in order to maximize the adoption of CHEI curriculum among Chinese hospitality students.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-61499-690-3-227","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,19]],"date-time":"2025-02-19T18:02:07Z","timestamp":1739988127000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["A Comparison of Mobile Learning Platforms in Teaching: Marriott's China Hospitality Education Initiative"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Hauze Sean","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"family":"De Lepe Mary","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"family":"Olmstead William","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Ambient Intelligence and Smart Environments","Intelligent Environments 2016"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,19]],"date-time":"2025-02-19T18:17:27Z","timestamp":1739989047000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISBN&isbn=978-1-61499-689-7&spage=227&doi=10.3233\/978-1-61499-690-3-227"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2016]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-61499-690-3-227","relation":{},"ISSN":["1875-4163"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1875-4163","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2016]]}}}
