Nonetheless, the growing success of the Web 2.0 has increased the interest towards the development of collaborative Web applications. However, Web standards have not supported the required mechanisms to develop efficient and quality collaborative applications until recently. This paper presents the most recent and newest standards and technologies supporting the development of these types of applications. Moreover, the experience of applying those standards and technologies to develop VIRTRAEL is presented.
