In this paper we introduce an important subset of data ontologies called semistar ontologies. Patient health records are typical examples of semistar ontologies. We propose a new natural language-based query language for semistar ontologies and provide an efficient implementation for the language. The expressiveness of the query language was demonstrated by turning it into a working language for Riga Children's Clinical University Hospital. Experiments with potential end-users have shown that the proposed query language can be taught to non-programmers in a couple of hours.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-61499-714-6-3","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,24]],"date-time":"2025-02-24T06:59:50Z","timestamp":1740380390000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["Ad-Hoc Querying of Semistar Data Ontologies Using Controlled Natural Language"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Barzdins Janis","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Grasmanis Mikus","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Rencis Edgars","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Sostaks Agris","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Barzdins Juris","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Applications","Databases and Information Systems IX"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,24]],"date-time":"2025-02-24T07:25:14Z","timestamp":1740381914000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISBN&isbn=978-1-61499-713-9&spage=3&doi=10.3233\/978-1-61499-714-6-3"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2016]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-61499-714-6-3","relation":{"is-cited-by":[{"id-type":"doi","id":"10.1007\/978-3-319-97571-9_17","asserted-by":"object"}]},"ISSN":["0922-6389"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0922-6389","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2016]]}}}
