Product platforms has been the dominant solution for a business targeting mass-customization. The main idea is to dived the product into modules that can be shared among different product variants. This has been a success on the consumer market, however, many manufacturing companies are engineer-to-order (ETO) oriented, such as original equipment suppliers (OES). They design a unique solution, often in close collaboration with other companies, based on different product concepts and\/or core technologies. For these companies, there is a strategic need for a platform model influenced by the principles of mass-customization, although, not limited to only include modules. In this work, a novel platform model, called Design Platform is described. The model has been developed and applied in cooperation with four companies. The Design Platform provides a coherent environment for management of heterogeneous design assets to be used in product development and supports an improved ability to master fluctuating requirements and systematic introduction of new technologies.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-61499-779-5-703","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,19]],"date-time":"2025-02-19T17:19:26Z","timestamp":1739985566000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Design Platform – A Coherent Model for Management and Use of Mixed Design Assets"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Elgh Fredrik","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"André Samuel","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Johansson Joel","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Stolt Roland","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Advances in Transdisciplinary Engineering","Transdisciplinary Engineering: A Paradigm Shift"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,19]],"date-time":"2025-02-19T17:46:49Z","timestamp":1739987209000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISBN&isbn=978-1-61499-778-8&spage=703&doi=10.3233\/978-1-61499-779-5-703"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2017]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-61499-779-5-703","relation":{},"ISSN":["2352-751X"],"issn-type":[{"value":"2352-751X","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2017]]}}}
