These text snippets are produced by overwriting standardized ICD-Code topics by the physicians at the point of care. They provide highly compact expert descriptions within a 50-character long text field frequently not assigned to a specific ICD-10 code. The high redundancy of these lists would benefit from content-based categorization within different hospital-based application scenarios. This work demonstrates how to accurately group diagnosis lists via a combination of natural language processing and hierarchical clustering with an overall F-measure value of 0.87. In addition, it compresses the initial diagnosis list up to 89%. The manuscript discusses pitfall and challenges as well as the potential of a large-scale approach for tackling this problem.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-61499-858-7-100","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T16:48:36Z","timestamp":1740156516000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["EHR Text Categorization for Enhanced Patient-Based Document Navigation"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Kreuzthaler Markus","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Pfeifer Bastian","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Vera Ramos José Antonio","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Kramer Diether","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Grogger Victor","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Bredenfeldt Sylvia","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Pedevilla Markus","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Krisper Peter","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Schulz Stefan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Studies in Health Technology and Informatics","Health Informatics Meets eHealth"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T17:06:07Z","timestamp":1740157567000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISBN&isbn=978-1-61499-857-0&spage=100&doi=10.3233\/978-1-61499-858-7-100"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2018]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-61499-858-7-100","relation":{},"ISSN":["0926-9630"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0926-9630","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2018]]}}}
