Arrays) and sequential containers (ex. Lists) are today of the most useful abstractions in sequential programming. They facilitate access to a group of individual objects and provide uniform structure for realizing different semantics of synchronization in concurrent applications. To overcome the same challenges in parallel programming, we propose new abstraction called Time Collection. Parallelism and asynchronism in coupling channels are considered as the main challenges to achieve high performance. The first prototype is implemented on Athapascan parallel programming environment. Coupling of parallel codes is our motivation which is one of the main challenge of recent research projects in multi-disciplinary simulation, interactive multimedia environments and multi-screen visualization.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-61499-882-2-263","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,19]],"date-time":"2025-02-19T15:30:51Z","timestamp":1739979051000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Time Collection: An Abstraction for Shared Objects in Parallel Programming"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Hamidi Hamid Reza","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"family":"Kermanshahani Shokooh","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"family":"Gautier Thierry","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Advances in Parallel Computing","Big Data and HPC: Ecosystem and Convergence"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,19]],"date-time":"2025-02-19T15:31:21Z","timestamp":1739979081000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISBN&isbn=978-1-61499-881-5&spage=263&doi=10.3233\/978-1-61499-882-2-263"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2018]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-61499-882-2-263","relation":{},"ISSN":["0927-5452"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0927-5452","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2018]]}}}
