Tubular joints find applications in the piping industry, vehicle frames or thin-walled tubes, for instance, but they are seldom studied in the literature. This work numerically addressed the tensile strength of aluminum tubular joints, after validation of the numerical tool with experiments. The numerical analysis consisted of using the Finite Element (FE) method and cohesive zone models (CZM) to predict the joint strength. Numerically, the effect of the overlap length (LO) and the thickness of the inner and outer tubes (tSIand tSE, respectively) is addressed. The CZM technique was positively validated for the strength analysis of tubular joints. It was also shown that the joints' geometry and type of adhesive highly influence the joints' behaviour.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-61499-898-3-693","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,19]],"date-time":"2025-02-19T17:19:26Z","timestamp":1739985566000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Geometrical Optimization of Axially Loaded Tubular Adhesive Joints by Finite Elements"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Ferreira L.R.F.","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Campilho R.D.S.G.","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Barbosa D.R.","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Advances in Transdisciplinary Engineering","Transdisciplinary Engineering Methods for Social Innovation of Industry 4.0"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,19]],"date-time":"2025-02-19T17:40:07Z","timestamp":1739986807000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISBN&isbn=978-1-61499-897-6&spage=693&doi=10.3233\/978-1-61499-898-3-693"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2018]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-61499-898-3-693","relation":{},"ISSN":["2352-751X"],"issn-type":[{"value":"2352-751X","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2018]]}}}
