Unlike common logical calculi, which deal with propositions supported by truth semantics, the process synthesis calculus deals with products (in a concrete or abstract sense) and their costs, and creation of products by the composing of appropriate reaction assemblies from a database of reactions or transactions. As such the calculus may be understood as a resource logic akin to linear logics. The calculus appeals to means-end backwards reasoning using a derivative of definite clause logic. Although rather general in scope, as an interesting case in this paper the calculus is applied to chemical retro-synthesis – in particular with the notoriously difficult Solvay cluster designs.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/978-1-61499-933-1-20","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T10:21:00Z","timestamp":1740133260000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["A Process Calculus for Design and Modeling of Retro-Synthesis"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"family":"Broholm Gabriel","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Hammeken Maliina B.S.","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Hansen Marcus Skov","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Juhl Alexander","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Larsen Marc Storm","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Nilsson Jørgen Fischer","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Pethick Thomas M.","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"family":"Sørensen Magnus Gether","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Applications","Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases XXX"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,21]],"date-time":"2025-02-21T11:23:40Z","timestamp":1740137020000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.medra.org\/servlet\/aliasResolver?alias=iospressISBN&isbn=978-1-61499-932-4&spage=20&doi=10.3233\/978-1-61499-933-1-20"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2019]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/978-1-61499-933-1-20","relation":{},"ISSN":["0922-6389"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0922-6389","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2019]]}}}
