However, centralized learning is especially challenging in such very large scale environments, with thousands of agents\/resources and hundreds of thousands of requests coming in each day. In this paper, we provide a novel value decomposition mechanism that is able to tackle the scale and provide high quality (matching) decisions at each time step. We show that our value decomposition approach, Conditional Expectation based Value Decomposition (CEVD) is more sustainable (requires \u00a09.9% fewer vehicles to serve equal number of requests) and more efficient (serves 9.76% more requests, while traveling 13.32% lesser distance) than the current best approach over two different city scale (New York and Chicago) benchmarks for ride pooling using taxis.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/faia230283","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2023,9,29]],"date-time":"2023-09-29T09:01:12Z","timestamp":1695978072000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["On Sustainable Ride Pooling Through Conditional Expected Value Decomposition"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"given":"Avinandan","family":"Bose","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Washington"}]},{"given":"Hao","family":"Jiang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Singapore Management University"}]},{"given":"Pradeep","family":"Varakantham","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Singapore Management University"}]},{"given":"Zichang","family":"Ge","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Singapore Management University"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Applications","ECAI 2023"],"original-title":[],"link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/pdf\/doi\/10.3233\/FAIA230283","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2023,9,29]],"date-time":"2023-09-29T09:01:13Z","timestamp":1695978073000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/doi\/10.3233\/FAIA230283"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2023,9,28]]},"ISBN":["9781643684369","9781643684376"],"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/faia230283","relation":{},"ISSN":["0922-6389","1879-8314"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0922-6389","type":"print"},{"value":"1879-8314","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2023,9,28]]}}}
