To address these challenges, the world is shifting towards renewable energy sources (RES), which are not only environmentally sustainable but also have the potential to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. However, the intermittency and seasonality of RES arise new challenges that must be addressed. To overcome these challenges, energy storage systems (ESS) are becoming increasingly important in ensuring stability in the energy mix and meeting the demands of the electrical grid. This paper introduces charging and discharging strategies of ESS, and presents an important application in terms of occupants\u2019 behavior and appliances, to maximize battery usage and reshape power plant energy consumption thereby making the energy system more efficient and sustainable.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/faia231148","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2024,1,17]],"date-time":"2024-01-17T09:21:39Z","timestamp":1705483299000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Adaptive Charging and Discharging Strategies for Smart Grid Energy Storage Systems"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"given":"Alexander","family":"Dudko","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"KEIO University, Graduate School of Media and Governance, Kanagawa, Japan"}]},{"given":"Tatiana","family":"Endrjukaite","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Transport and Telecommunication Institute, Research Department, Riga, Latvia"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Applications","Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases XXXV"],"original-title":[],"link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/pdf\/doi\/10.3233\/FAIA231148","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2024,1,17]],"date-time":"2024-01-17T09:22:20Z","timestamp":1705483340000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/doi\/10.3233\/FAIA231148"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2024,1,16]]},"ISBN":["9781643684765","9781643684772"],"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/faia231148","relation":{},"ISSN":["0922-6389","1879-8314"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0922-6389","type":"print"},{"value":"1879-8314","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2024,1,16]]}}}
