However, alongside these benefits, there is a growing recognition of the potential societal impacts and ethical concerns associated with AI deployment. Addressing these considerations requires a shift towards more human-centred approaches to AI development, emphasising the importance of understanding humans and societal dynamics. My doctoral research explores the concept of Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence (HCAI) especially within the context of smart manufacturing, where AI technologies play a pivotal role in optimising production processes. By facilitating collaboration between humans and AI systems, often referred to as hybrid human-AI intelligence, organisations can enhance productivity while ensuring worker satisfaction and safety. This research proposal outlines a comprehensive investigation into HCAI design and development, aiming to identify novel techniques for integrating human and AI expertise effectively. Through a combination of theoretical analysis and empirical studies conducted in real-world manufacturing environments, this research seeks to contribute to the advancement of HCAI and facilitate the responsible deployment of AI systems in manufacturing and beyond.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/faia240210","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2024,6,6]],"date-time":"2024-06-06T14:52:55Z","timestamp":1717685575000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Investigations to Facilitate Human-Centred AI Development in Manufacturing"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-5997-0368","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Maria","family":"Hartikainen","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Tampere University, Human Technology Interaction, Unit of Computing Sciences"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Applications","HHAI 2024: Hybrid Human AI Systems for the Social Good"],"original-title":[],"link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/pdf\/doi\/10.3233\/FAIA240210","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2024,6,14]],"date-time":"2024-06-14T13:54:31Z","timestamp":1718373271000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/doi\/10.3233\/FAIA240210"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2024,6,5]]},"ISBN":["9781643685229"],"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/faia240210","relation":{},"ISSN":["0922-6389","1879-8314"],"issn-type":[{"type":"print","value":"0922-6389"},{"type":"electronic","value":"1879-8314"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2024,6,5]]}}}
