This paper proposes EDSVM, a novel environment drift detection method, which trains Support Vector Machines on undrifted and synthetic drifted examples generated by altering transition dynamics. By using decision function values as drift indicators, our method achieves competitive results compared to state-of-the-art baselines for the area-under-the-curve (AUC) metric. Additionally, we evaluate the performance of EDSVM when integrated with various Change Point Detection algorithms in terms of delay and false alarms, highlighting its potential for automating the monitoring of RL policies and supporting adaptive updates to production pipelines in MLOps workflows.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/faia251087","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,10,22]],"date-time":"2025-10-22T09:51:03Z","timestamp":1761126663000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["EDSVM: A Novel Approach for Environment Drift Detection in Reinforcement Learning Using Synthetic Drifted Examples"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-7013-8182","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Zhizhou","family":"Fang","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Doctoral School Computer Science (DoCS), University of Vienna, Austria"},{"name":"Research Group Software Architecture, Faculty of Computer Science, University of Vienna, Austria"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-6233-2591","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Uwe","family":"Zdun","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Research Group Software Architecture, Faculty of Computer Science, University of Vienna, Austria"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Applications","ECAI 2025"],"original-title":[],"link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/pdf\/doi\/10.3233\/FAIA251087","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,10,22]],"date-time":"2025-10-22T09:51:03Z","timestamp":1761126663000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/doi\/10.3233\/FAIA251087"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2025,10,21]]},"ISBN":["9781643686318"],"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/faia251087","relation":{},"ISSN":["0922-6389","1879-8314"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0922-6389","type":"print"},{"value":"1879-8314","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2025,10,21]]}}}
