The analysis not only identifies regional disparities but also decomposes efficiency into pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency to uncover the underlying sources of performance gaps. The results reveal distinct regional disparities: eastern provinces reach the highest efficiency with both technological and scale advantages; the central region ranks second, with balanced performance but scale limitations, while western and northeastern regions lag behind due to limitations in both pure technical efficiency and economies of scale. Robustness checks using bootstrap and sensitivity analyses suggest that these patterns are broadly consistent across specifications.
