Early identification of dyslexic students is crucial to provide timely intervention and support but waiting times for assessment services are often long. To address this challenge, we propose a dyslexia identification system built on AWS cloud platform. The cloud-based system is accessible via a mobile application. We collected handwriting data on 27 representative traditional Chinese characters and recruited 107 children aged 5-7 in Hong Kong for the first data collection round. We developed feature extraction algorithms, trained and evaluated 6 models for each character, and summarized the results for all 27 characters. We conducted a user acceptance test and presented our findings and conclusions in this research. The experimental result shows 84.3% real-world accuracy on dyslexia diagnosis by using our cloud-based dyslexia identification system.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/faia251695","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2026,1,27]],"date-time":"2026-01-27T13:20:05Z","timestamp":1769520005000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Identifying Dyslexia of Traditional Chinese by Using Machine Learning Methods"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"given":"Man-Ching","family":"Yuen","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong SAR, China"},{"name":"Hong Kong Computer Society, Hong Kong SAR, China"}]},{"given":"Chi-Wai","family":"Yung","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Hong Kong Shue Yan University, Hong Kong SAR, China"}]},{"given":"Ka-Fai","family":"Ng","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Hong Kong Shue Yan University, Hong Kong SAR, China"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Applications","Fuzzy Systems and Data Mining XI"],"original-title":[],"link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/pdf\/doi\/10.3233\/FAIA251695","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2026,1,27]],"date-time":"2026-01-27T13:20:05Z","timestamp":1769520005000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/doi\/10.3233\/FAIA251695"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2026,1,27]]},"ISBN":["9781643686448"],"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/faia251695","relation":{},"ISSN":["0922-6389","1879-8314"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0922-6389","type":"print"},{"value":"1879-8314","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2026,1,27]]}}}
