More precisely, there is a length-preserving homomorphism that maps \u03c9 to an encoding of t. Basic properties of TC grammars are established. For backwards deterministic TC grammars we give a shift-reduce precedence parsing method without look-ahead, which implies that TC languages can be recognized in linear time. The class of TC languages contains all parenthesis languages, and is contained in the classes of simple precedence languages and NTS languages.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/fi-1995-2311","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2019,12,2]],"date-time":"2019-12-02T20:36:09Z","timestamp":1575318969000},"page":"1-32","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["GRAMMATICAL CODES OF TREES AND TERMINALLY CODED GRAMMARS"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"23","author":[{"given":"Andrzej","family":"Ehrenfeucht","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Science, University of Colorado at Boulder, Boulder, CO 80309, U.S.A."}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Joost","family":"Engelfriet","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Science, Leiden University, P.O.Box 9512, 2300 RA Leiden, The Netherlands, pas@rulwinw.leidenuniv.nl"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Paulien ten","family":"Pas","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Science, Leiden University, P.O.Box 9512, 2300 RA Leiden, The Netherlands, pas@rulwinw.leidenuniv.nl"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Grzegorz","family":"Rozenberg","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Science, University of Colorado at Boulder, Boulder, CO 80309, U.S.A."},{"name":"Department of Computer Science, Leiden University, P.O.Box 9512, 2300 RA Leiden, The Netherlands, pas@rulwinw.leidenuniv.nl"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[1995,1,1]]},"container-title":["Fundamenta Informaticae"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.3233\/FI-1995-2311","content-type":"application\/pdf","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.3233\/FI-1995-2311","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2026,4,29]],"date-time":"2026-04-29T06:33:21Z","timestamp":1777444401000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.3233\/FI-1995-2311"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[1995,1,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"1","published-print":{"date-parts":[[1995,6]]}},"alternative-id":["10.3233\/FI-1995-2311"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/fi-1995-2311","relation":{},"ISSN":["0169-2968","1875-8681"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0169-2968","type":"print"},{"value":"1875-8681","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[1995,1,1]]}}}
